Ed Merlin Murray is an illustrator and multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, collage, animation, music, and book-based projects. His work often takes the form of self-contained systems ~ books, drawings, and animated sequences ~ developed as complete, internally coherent bodies of work.
His practice explores invented mythologies, symbolic systems, and the quiet absurdities of belief, often through slow, tactile analogue processes.
For the last decade or so he has worked as a freelance illustrator and animator, producing editorial illustrations, commercial commissions, exhibitions, books, and self-initiated projects. In recent years, as the landscape of commercial illustration has changed, his practice has shifted away from commissioned work towards personal projects and music.
He currently spends most of his time writing, recording, playing, and producing music while continuing to make drawings, animations, artist books, and printed matter. Whatever the medium, his work is driven by the same fascination with pattern, collage, repetition, and the slow construction of worlds that follow their own strange rules.
